Ten-year-old Henry Atkinson from Lyndhurst, New Forest has proudly represented the UK on the global junior golf stage, delivering outstanding performances at two of the world’s most prestigious junior tournaments. Henry has returned from the United States with two top five finishes, returning with 5th and 4th place trophies to add to his growing collection.

Having won the UK qualifier for boys aged 9-10, Henry earnt his place at the renowned Uswing Mojing Junior World Championships in San Diego – the largest junior golf tournament in the world – and the FCG Callaway World Championship in Palm Springs.

Despite being the only British boy in his age group at the Uswing Mojing event, Henry rose to the occasion in a highly competitive field of 101 players from across the world, finishing 5th overall after three intense days and 54 holes of world-class golf. His performance earned him a coveted trophy finish, in what was his third time competing at the event.

The Palm Springs challenge was Henry’s first appearance at the FCG Callaway World Championship, where he faced over 50 players in his age group and contended with blistering 44°C heat. Undeterred, he posted a remarkable tied 3rd score, ultimately placing 4th on countback and securing another trophy finish.

The results come after a winter of tough training in the UK, where Henry persevered through difficult weather conditions to hone his skills and bring his handicap down to 4.1.

Nathan Cook, Henry’s golf coach and caddy for both competitions, said: “Henry delivered six outstanding rounds of golf. He remained composed throughout and consistently created birdie opportunities. We had a clear strategic plan for each course and stuck to it with discipline, which really paid off. His mindset, confidence and focus were exceptional, especially given the challenging heat conditions, which he handled with impressive resilience.

“This was our third time competing in the US, and Henry has shown remarkable progress each year. Securing a top-five finish has meant he has automatically qualified for next year, securing one of only three spots available in England – and incredible achievement.

“Overall, it was a brilliant performance and a real privilege to watch and caddy for him.”

This summer, Henry is looking forward to representing Hampshire Golf and his home club Wellow Golf Club, continuing his journey in the junior golf circuit. As he continues to pursue his dream of competing at the highest level in junior golf, Henry is actively seeking sponsorship to help support his development and travel to elite international tournaments.
