Booking.com

Barcelona is the most visited city in Spain by tourists and is most famous for its architecture, culture and football. Not an area best known for its golf courses. Yet, with a milder summer climate than southern Spain and some quality golf courses, Barcelona is still an excellent place for golfers to visit. It is the perfect destination for combining Spanish culture with great golf.

Below we have listed our top 3 golf courses in Barcelona.

Technically not one golf course, El Prat is a combination of five nine hole courses. Despite opening originally in 1954, the El Prat courses had to relocate due to the growth of Barcelona and its airport. The 45 holes as they are played today were designed by Greg Norman and opened in 2003.

The Pink, combining the Arriba and Bosque nine, and Yellow, combining the Piscina and Abajo nines, are the preferred 18 hole courses. The Pink layout has hosted the Spanish Open on numerous occasions and will provide a stern test for any amateur golfer.

However, each of the nine holes have their merits and offer a variety to golfers playing here multiple times. With the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac Natural Park and Sant Llorens mountain in the distance the course boasts beautiful views that will certainly leave a lasting impression. Located just a 30 minute drive from Barcelona airport El Prat is possibly the number one must-play location for golfers visiting Barcelona.

Located just 15 minutes from the north of Barcelona, Sant Cugat is the closest golf course to Barcelona. A classic Harry Colt design, Sant Cugat is one of the oldest 18 hole golf courses in Catalonia having been originally founded in 1914 and registered as the New Barcelona golf course since 1919.

Despite not being the longest golf course it will still provide a stern test for any standard of golfer, with tree lined fairways, blind shots and tricky greens. It has previously hosted tournaments on both the men’s and ladies European Tours, which is testament to how well the original design has held up over so many years.

There are excellent practice facilities and the course is known by golfers for having greens kept in good condition. So, given it is only a short drive away if you are staying in Barcelona, Sant Cugat is well worth a visit.

Club de Golf Barcelona, located only 25km from Barcelona, is an undulous parkland golf course with excellent practice and clubhouse facilities. Opening in 1990 and originally known as Masia Bach, Barcelona was designed by Jose Maria Olazabal.
It is known for being one of the more challenging courses in the area, because of both its length and tough layout. Any golfers wanting a more relaxing round, Barcelona does also have a shorter and easier 9 hole course. Having hosted many professional golf events on the Ladies European Tour, the Barcelona course is often kept in great condition and boasts some stunning views of the Montserrat Mountains.

For golfers wanting a unique experience, I recommend making the hour’s drive to the nearby PGA Catalunya in Girona. The Stadium Course features in our list of Top 5 Golf Courses in Spain (internal link here).
