Estoril Golf Club began as a nine-hole course in 1929. It was designed by Fausto de Figueiredo, the concessionaire of gambling at Estoril Casino. The 9th hole disappeared and an alteration to 13th's fairway occurred - it is now called Patiño’s Hole because its second shot must be played from where the old green lay; this dogleg right has been added on and there are trees lining both sides of the holes leading up to that point. \ Overlooking the sea, this 5200 meter long course is set amongst eucalyptus, mimosas and pine trees. The visually stunning par 3 holes all pose challenges to good tactics rather than distance; Pepper's Hole (the 4th) has pepper trees surrounding it while Tea Cup (8th hole), due to its flag position that always presents a challenge.
