Playing Golf in Wales

Where can I play golf in Wales?

The links courses are some of the best in Wales and recognised internationally as being challenging and full of character.

You can also play golf in all the main regions during a week’s stay, paving your way to see Wales’ outstanding beauty along the way.

It’s easy to combine a variety of courses each day; one could be coastal while another is breathtaking inside-land or Championship course!

Measuring over 6000 yards from the championship tees it is said that it is the hardest par-69 in the world. Its standard scratch (course rating) of 73 would in fact be a better indicator.

Aberdovey is another classic and do not forget the Rolls of Monmouth or the 2010 Ryder Cup venue Celtic Manor Resort.

The crown jewel when you come to play golf in Wales is Royal Porthcawl golf course. Michael Williams of the Daily Telegraph summed it all up with; “Royal Porthcawl epitomises all that is best about the game, as it once was, even down to a creaking clubhouse that is as unchanging as the magnificent links and unrivalled hospitality.”

But travelling a little further inland and into the Snowdonia National Park in Northwest Wales, you can find Royal St David’s Golf Course. As mentioned above, this is rated as the toughest par 69 in the world.

Turning towards Cardigan Bay, Aberdovey Golf Course is a true links course, nestled among the towering dunes, undulating firm fairways and changeable winds challenging you on every hole.

And if you are looking for dramatic views, 200ft above the sea cliff-top holes, try Pennard Golf Course. It has some of the most dramatic views of any golf course in Britain and with elevated tees on several holes, a thrilling round awaits.
