Golf started in the USA back in the 18th century, and golf courses are found in almost every state. The first golf course in the US is Chicago Golf Club golf course. It opened for play in 1873 and was the first golf club established outside of Great Britain, where golf originated.
The game has now evolved into a much-loved pastime with over 14,000 golf courses across America.
The state that hosts the most golf courses in the US is Florida, with over 600 golf courses, including some of the best ones on earth like PGA National Resort & Spa, TPC Sawgrass, and Bay Hill Club & Lodge, to name a few!
California comes second with around 500 golf courses, from Pebble Beach Golf Links to Rancho Bernardo Country Club.
Texas third place holder at 400+ golf clubs, followed by New York (around 260), Michigan (250), and Minnesota, rounding up the top five states.
